Poland wins Miss Supranational 2011 title at home

Monika Lewczuk, from Plock, Poland, won the III edition of Miss Supranational, in the city of Plock, in Poland. One of the favorites to win the title, her victory was no surprise for those following the pageant. She received the sash and crown from Panama’s Karina Pinilla, last year’s winner.

The 1st runner-up was Miss Belarus, Liudmila Yakimovich. It’s the 2nd time in three years that Belarus places 2nd in the pageant, being the first in 2009. Miss Puerto Rico, Valery Velez, one of the surprises of the night, took the stage by storm and was the 2nd runner-up. Also beating the odds, Miss Vietnam, Daniela Nguyenova, was the 3rd runner-up, the best ever result achieved by a Vietnamese beauty in a Grand Slam pageant. Rounding out the Top 5, as 4th runner-up, was Miss USA, Krystelle Khoury, one of the favorites.

Perhaps the biggest upset of the night was the non-inclusion of Miss French Polynesia, Mihilani Teixeira, the #1 favorite for the crown, among the ‘top 5′. She was a semi-finalist, along with Misses Brazil, Suymara Barreto Parreira, Colombia, Tania Zuluaga Candamil, Czech Republic, Aneta Grabcová, Dominican Republic, Sofinel Baez Santos, France, Analisa Kebaili, Hungary, Agnes Konkoly, Iceland, Gudrun Runarsdottir, India, Michelle Almeida, Latvia, Eva Caune, Lebanon, Daniella Rahme, Panama, Lidia Elena McNulty Espino, Slovenia, Suzana Matic, South Africa, Dhesha Jeram, and Ukraine, Natalia Sitnikova.

Monika Lewczuk, Miss Supranational 2011, competed in Miss Globe International 2009 and was the 1st runner-up. She is 23 years old, 1.77 m-tall, and works as a model. Monika’s resemblance to pop singer Madonna (a younger version) has been pointed out by many.

She won a cash prize of USD 25,000, the third greatest in the Grand Slam, just behind Miss World and Miss Universe.
